Project Description and Explanation: The ZiaMet Mesonet expansion would add 120 new stations dispersed throughout New Mexico, vastly increasing the availability of high-quality real-time weather and climate information for local, regional, and national research and decision-making.

Project Description and Explanation: The University of New Mexico's (UNM) Decedent Image Database will improve the accuracy of identifying Native American decedents. Native Americans are disproportionately affected by the crisis of unidentified decedents. Identifying decedent remains can bring closure to families suffering through the trauma of a missing family member. However, current decedent databases often misclassify Native American decedents. UNM plans its research using up-to-date methods coupled with new resources and the Decedent Image Database to improve the accuracy of identifying Native American decedents. The New Mexico Decedent Image Database project has received support letters from the UNM Center for Native American Health, Northern Arizona University, Center for Health Equity Research, and UNM's Office of the Medical Investigator.

Project Description and Explanation: The Trauma Recovery Center model provides assertive outreach and engagement to connect victims of crime with trauma recovery services. Trauma Recovery Center model evaluations have found that recipients of trauma recovery services have a positive response to the assistance and demonstrate more overall health improvement than crime victims without trauma recovery assistance. Victims of violent crime are more likely to be victimized again and are more likely to become part of the cycle of violence. The Trauma Recovery Center will provide an essential tool to break this cycle and help victims on a path to recovery.

Project Description and Explanation: The proposed Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office Rapid DNA Program would allow the crime lab to expedite its processing and eliminate any backlog. The Rapid DNA technology will allow the crime lab to quickly and accurately identify suspects and victims. The requested amount covers $150,000 for instrumentation, $100,000 for software, and $100,000 for scientific reach back support and consumables.

Project Description and Explanation: Albuquerque's Crossroads for Women would work with clients to overcome lifelong trauma, many violent in nature, after their release from Metropolitan Detention Services. Services begin during incarceration then transition to the Maya's Place therapeutic community. Women will stay in the facility for six months and receive comprehensive wrap-around services. Following Maya's Place, clients would receive six months of supportive housing and continued case management that includes access to family and vocational specialists, clinicians, additional counselors, and assistance with food, clothing housewares, and hygiene items. After this year-long program, Crossroads for Women alumni have permanent access to peer support and addiction counselors to achieve a health outcome.

Project Description and Explanation: The expansion of the Gunshot Detection System in Albuquerque, NM will benefit the community by providing law enforcement with a faster and more accurate response to gunshots. This increased response time will increase the opportunity for the APD to collect evidence, interview witnesses, and engage with the community. The current APD gunshot detection system covers six square miles; this funding would purchase an additional eight square miles.

Project Description and Explanation: The City of Carlsbad's police and fire departments currently rely on obsolete radios that require significant resources to repair. Solid communication is essential to ensuring the safety of first responders and citizens. The new radios will allow first responders to be better prepared and communicate in the event of an emergency and communicate with other cross-jurisdictional agencies in the region. The lack of cross-jurisdictional communication capacity puts first responders and citizens at substantial risk.

Project Description and Explanation: The Sandoval County Sheriff's Office requests funding to acquire up to 65 mobile laptop computers to increase effectiveness in responding to and preventing crime. Currently, deputies in the field are using outdated laptops which have difficulty operating on the same system used by dispatch. Deputies' access to current computers will improve service calls, maintain accurate report records, and facilitate real-time sharing of crime data with surrounding agencies. The new computers will also allow the Sheriff's Office to more accurately track crime data that can be readily accessed by law enforcement in the field. This investment will support the mission of community-oriented policing.

Project Description and Explanation: The City of Carlsbad will acquire, equip, furnish, and install a mobile command center for the Carlsbad Police Department. This command center will also be utilized in partnership with regional law enforcement and first responder agencies across Eddy County and southeast New Mexico. The City of Carlsbad is collaborating with the Artesia Police Department, Carlsbad Fire Department, Eddy County Fire Service, Eddy County Sheriff's Office, Eddy County Emergency Management, and Loving Police Department. The City and its partners anticipate a positive impact on the effectiveness in their response efforts during crisis response incidents. The partnering agencies will be able to respond quickly and with uninterrupted communications during these critical events. During downtimes, the partnering agencies can use the Police Mobile Command Center for community outreach efforts.
