Mass. Delegation Urges FEMA to Support Commonwealth's Snowstorm Disaster Recovery Efforts

WASHINGTON, DC - The Massachusetts Congressional delegation today sent a letter to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator W. Craig Fugate urging the agency to support the Commonwealth's disaster recovery efforts following the severe winter storms that have caused historic snowfall accumulations over the last few weeks.

In the letter, the Massachusetts delegation asks FEMA to provide support for the Preliminary Damage Assessment process and to swiftly approve the forthcoming request from Governor Charlie Baker for a Presidential Disaster Declaration. The letter notes the historic snow accumulations, seawall damage, and beach erosion caused by the storms.

"Many communities throughout the Commonwealth incurred significant disaster response and recovery costs responding to the storms," the delegation wrote in the letter. "Federal assistance is critically needed to help the Commonwealth repair public facilities and infrastructure damaged or destroyed by the snowfall, as well as to recoup the costs of snow removal and road treatment."
